This Food Atlas is a publication created with photographer and filmmaker Kadir van Lohuizen. Over years he has investigated the systems behind our food production: from hypermodern seed enrichment and massive storage facilities to abattoirs and waste processors. In this book his photos are combined with rich data visualizations and contextual analysis.
His research brought the photographer to five countries that play a crucial role in our food production: the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, and China. Based on these five chapters we developed a narrative framework and image edit.
THE FOOD DASHBOARD
To further increase the impact of the visual story we developed a series of food dashboards that reveal the scale, complexity, and interdependency of global food networks. Each food dashboard brings together key statistics, data visualizations, and contextual information on food production, consumption, trade, and environmental impact. These dashboards provide readers with a deeper understanding, visually mapping out the forces shaping the industry.
The project was launched as an exhibition in the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.
